Rental vehicle excess

Policies include cover for rental vehicle expenses if renting a vehicle during your trip. Section E1 provides cover for the rental vehicle insurance excess if a rented vehicle is damaged in an accident or stolen. A standard limit of $3,000 is automatically included with the policy, and where required this can be increased to a total limit of $8,000 for an additional premium. The rental vehicle must have comprehensive motor vehicle insurance for the period of hire for Section E1 to apply.

Section E2 provides cover for the cost of returning a rental vehicle to the nearest drop-off location if you are unable to do so as a result of an event that is covered by another section of the policy.

Cruises in Australian waters

Domestic cruises are automatically covered under the QBE Australian Comprehensive Policy, with $50,000 cover for medical expenses and $1,000 cover for dental expenses due to sudden and acute pain. These benefits only apply where expenses are incurred onboard a cruise ship in Australian waters (there is no cover for medical or dental expenses incurred in Australia).

Policies also provide additional cruise benefits, including cover to join the cruise at the ship’s next port of call if you miss the departure because your flight is delayed for more than 6 hours, and cover for cancellation fees if you can’t go on a shore excursion because you are unwell.

Travel to Norfolk Island

From 1 July 2016, Australian health arrangements and laws will extend to Norfolk Island, including Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. With the introduction of these changes, QBE is no longer able to cover medical expenses and medical repatriation for Australian residents visiting Norfolk Island. As a result, travel to Norfolk Island is now covered under the QBE Australian Comprehensive Policy (rather than an international policy).
